For
the convenience of patients, state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment
is available on site at all of the clinic's facilities. For established
patients, late afternoon appointments are available at least one
day per week.
After history, examination, and diagnostic investigation,
patients receive individualized counseling on avoidance strategies
for substances to which they are sensitive and an individualized
program of use of medication is developed when necessary. For patients
who have recurrent unpredictable conditions such as asthma, education
regarding early recognition and initial self-management of flare-ups
is an integral part of the treatment plan; 24-hour telephone support
from a clinic nurse or physician is always available. Desensitization
to airborne allergens is a specialized technique used in patients
with persistent or recurrent respiratory allergy problems to stimulate
the patient's own immune system to overcome allergic sensitivity.
